My Month With Mrs Potter

Posted on Fri, 6 Jun 2014 12:15 by Alexa

My screenplay for MonkeyDribble Film's feature, 'My Month With Mrs Potter', is now in production. The first week sounds as though it's been a blast! Main location looks brilliant and the weather has been kind. Can't wait to join cast and crew in ten days or so to film my scenes as Morwenna Coulson.

For regular updates and fantastic photos from the shoot, please see and like the Facebook page - My Month With Mrs Potter. You can follow on Twitter too @mrspotterfilm.

In other news, I've now begun work on planning out some new writing projects. So all good here. x

Feature goes into production!

Posted on Fri, 16 May 2014 11:39 by Alexa

The Pens Activity Bible for 3- to 6-year-olds is now out! Available direct from CWR and all the usual on-line outlets too. It looks fantastic. Another wonderful, colourful job by CWR's clever design team. Simple re-tellings of Bible stories (some of the not so well known ones are in there) are complemented by fun little puzzles and activities. Would make a lovely present for young ones.

I've also been working on a feature screenplay for MonkeyDribble Films over the last few months, and I'm very excited to annouce that the film goes into production on 30 May! Not only that, but I've been cast in one of the supporting roles. Summer's off to a great start!

More Pens news

Posted on Tue, 15 Apr 2014 16:18 by Alexa

Lots of activity on the 'Pens' front so far this year! And to add to it, I've just completed 'Pens' book 23. It's now with the publishers, CWR, and probably being edited as I type! Mike Henson's artwork is always fabulous. Look forward to seeing how he illustrates this latest batch of 'Pens' adventures.

Now on to book 24 ...

And for a last minute Easter treat, there's also a 'Pens' Easter special book. You can buy it from all the usual on-line outlets, and direct from CWR by copying and pasting the link below:

Happy Easter! And long may the sun continue in its sunnyness. x

Feeling springy

Posted on Tue, 4 Mar 2014 12:53 by Alexa

With the mornings and evenings getting lighter, I'm also starting to see more clearly as I get used to my variefocals! I'm told there's a knack ... Along with just about everybody, I'm sure, I shan't be sorry to see the back of this grim, wet winter. Even our dog has thought twice about going for a walk when I've tried to hustle him out through the back door. I've told him it's not my fault but from the reproachful look he throws me every time we set off for yet another muddy paddle, I'm not sure he believes me.

However, along with the rain, the work has also been flowing. I've recently finished a Topz Secret Diary Holiday Special for CWR which is full of puzzles and quizzes, plus brand-new diary entries from each member of the Topz Gang. It'll be out in a few months' time, hopefully to help occupy and bring a smile to 7- to 11-year-olds during their many weeks off school through the year (oh, those were the days!).

I've also just completed a Topz Tips For School booklet, again for 7- to 11-year-olds, which features the Topz Gang, too, and is (as it sort of says in the title) packed full of tips for how to get the most out of primary school. It'll be out before long - I'll post again when I know when, plus link so that you can have a peek.

On the editing side, I've now finished the first edit of a fantastic new book - The Single Mum Entrepreneur by Ali Golds. Written in a fabulously accessible and chatty style, it's truly inspiring. Ali not only tells her own story and how she came to begin and develop her businesses, but also imparts invaluable facts and information for anyone - and perhaps especially those who find themselves as single mums - with an entrepreneurial spirit.

And, with the second draft of my feature screenplay for MonkeyDribble Films also complete, I'm looking forward to a skype meeting with the Norton Bros tomorrow.

One last, but very important thing - my Topz Secret Story, 'One Too Many For Benny', has rather excitingly been shortlisted for a Speaking Volumes 2014 Book Award. Voting is open until 31 March. The book is on my book page, and if you are able to spare a few moments to do the  clicky bits to vote, I should be SO grateful! Here's the link http://www.christianbookawards.org/my-vote/

More news soon. x

Christmas round-up!

Posted on Thu, 12 Dec 2013 00:32 by Alexa

Flying time (as in, doesn’t time fly, not , it’s time to go flying)! With Christmas 2013 practically knocking on the door – I really must make a few mince pies – it’s hard to believe that another year is racing towards its close. And, my-oh-my, what a busy year it’s been! It’s seen the writing/release of four more of my Topz Secret Stories, several more Pens books for little people, including a Halloween special also available as an animated download, the creation of an exciting new Pens project now handed over to the brilliant CWR designers to be released in 2014, and an array of Christmas offerings! If you’re still looking for Christmas presents for little ones and slightly bigger ones, do, please, have a look at these links:

For 3-6-year-olds – a brand-new compilation of my Christmas stories from the last few years. It’s a really lovely edition:

http://www.cwr.org.uk/store/p-1608-its-christmas.aspx

Also for 3-6-year-olds – Pens Christmas Special book:

http://www.cwr.org.uk/store/p-1127-pens-special-christmas.aspx

And the Pens Special is available as an animated download too! Lots of fun:

http://www.cwr.org.uk/store/p-1504-pens-christmas-animationbrdownloadable-video-file.aspx

For 7-11-year-olds, there’s the Topz Christmas Cracker, packed full of puzzles, quizzes and facts about Christmas, all wrapped up in true Topz Gang style:

http://www.cwr.org.uk/store/p-1607-topz-secret-diariesbr-christmas-cracker.aspx

Hope there’s something there to take your fancy – and that of your little people, obviously!

In the last couple of weeks, I’ve also come to the end of the screenplay I’ve been working on for MonkeyDribble Films. Fantastic to write a feature, and the film will go into production next year. All very exciting!

In amongst all of that (and editing and proofing, too), our Moonstone Theatre Company has really taken off over the last four months or so. We’ve been story-telling, creating interactive performances (including one for a hilarious luncheon at the Theatre Royal in Bath which sold out, and another in the stunning Coleton Fishacre, a National Trust property), performing our own original comedy drama production, and, in the run up to Christmas, we’ll be at the Model Village in Babbacombe, Torquay, with a mini pantomime – and I’m so evil! Oh, yes I am! Moonstone also already has getting on for 50 bookings for next year (including another two for the Theatre Royal in Bath and we’ll be doing more work outside Devon as well), with additional dates being added all the time!

So, with new writing commissions scheduled in and the general hurly burly of life, I have a feeling that 2014 is going to whip by in the same flash mode as 2013!

Happy Christmas, and a wonderful, peaceful, brand-new year xx

Still time to grab new Pens Special for Halloween!

Posted on Tue, 22 Oct 2013 10:43 by Alexa

The latest Pens special, 'Pumpkin Party' (see gorgeous cover on book page (ages 3-6) courtesy of wonderful CWR designers) has been out for a little while now, but there's still time to grab a copy for a little person to help them celebrate Halloween. Click the link on the book page to buy direct from CWR, or you'll find it available at the usual on-line book outlets.

The story is also available as an animated download - copy and paste this link to see a very short trailer http://www.cwr.org.uk/store/p-1602-pens-pumpkin-party-animationbrdownloadable-animation.aspx

October now racing towards its close. Don't know where the year has gone! The next few weeks or so are extremely busy with Moonstone Theatre performances. The company is really blossoming which is very exciting!  I'm also working towards a late November deadline on the next Pens project together with the screenplay for MonkeyDribble Films - also needed for end November. Like buses - it all comes at once! Keeps my mind off the shortening days though.

If you're interested in keeping up to date with Moonstone's activities, please do 'like' our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter @MoonstoneTheatr. You can also find out what we're up to at www.moonstonetheatrecompany.co.uk.
